Chris Burton impressed with Alex Williams opening with 25* and 27* respectively. Adam Bardouleau batted well for 17. Ryan Quirke looked good for 16 and Bradley Lewis scored 17. We comfortably reached 123-5 to win. Thanks to Steve Townend and Paul Chambers for scoring/umpiring and again to our parents who are a great help and support to our Club.
MATCH REPORT - Sunday 22nd June 2008
Worthing V Stirlands Under 14’s
Worthing 140-7 off 25 overs Stirlands 115 all out 20.3 overs
A bright and blustery day greeted Stirlands to the Manor Ground on Sunday 22nd June. Worthing elected to bat and against some accurate bowling we managed to score 140-7 with Chris Burton scoring 25 (retired) and after a slight wobble Ryan Quirke came in and batted magnificently to total 33*. Tom Chambers came in at no 9 and batted solidly and sensibly with Joe Issacs to total 27* and Joe scoring 16* (his best score this season). Stirlands openers were magnificent (both retiring) and with Worthing not managing to take a wicket until 87 runs were on the scoreboard things were looking bleak. Enter Adam Bardouleau; after an uncharacteristic batting performance he bowled superbly to take 5 wickets in 3.3 overs for 11 runs. Ryan Quirke also bowled excellently to take 3 – 24 in 4 overs. Brilliant catches from Chris Burton and Chris Farley finished the Stirlands innings. Alex Williams retired hurt after getting a nasty delivery on the toe, he was unable to continue so Jack Tracey, who is out with a chipped bone in his foot, came on to field; what an effort! Despite obviously being in pain he limped his way nearly to the end. It is this type of commitment that makes this Team a fantastic unit. You have done yourselves and your Club proud boys. Well done! Thanks to Steve Townend and Paul Chambers for scoring/umpiring and once again our band of parents who are a great bunch of supporters and help the Team (and me!) in our quest for victory! P.S. I wasn’t worried!!

Worthing V Selsey Under 14’s
Worthing 149-2 off 25 overs Selsey 45-10 off 23.3 overs
A cool evening greeted our arrival for our “home” game played at Selsey. Worthing opened with Chris Burton and Alex Williams both retiring on 25* closely followed with some great shots from Adam Bardouleau 25* and a personal best of 25* from Tom Chambers. Matt Martin kept the score ticking over with a well controlled 21*. We scored a very creditable 149-2 on a low pitch. Our bowling and fielding were superb again with everyone bowling notable figures:-
Steve Meachin 3 overs 2 wickets 3 runs Jack Tracey 2 2 1 Joe Issacs 4 2 3 Tom Chambers 2 2 5
A brilliant one-handed slip catch by Chris Farley finished the Selsey innings all out for 45. Thanks to Steve Townend and Paul Chambers for umpiring/scoring and again great support from our parents who made the effort to drive down to Selsey. After the match the Selsey Manager came into our dressing room to congratulate us not just for winning, but for our attitude and sportsmanship during the game. Well done lads you are a credit to your Club and yourselves.
Arundel V Worthing Under 14’s
Arundel 135-9 LOST to Worthing 164 all out by 29 runs
A hot sunny day at Arundel greeted the arrival of Worthing Under 14’s. Trepidation was evident owing to past results. Worthing lost the toss and were put into bat. Chris Burton opened with Joe Isaacs; both did what was asked of them, Joe scoring just 1 but seeing off the new ball allowing Chris to hit four 4s and one 6 before being bowled for 22. Jack Tracey was number 3 hitting 16 before being run out going for a tight second run. Enter Harry Reed, playing up from the Under 13’s; his first game of the season and he played magnificently to get retired and coming back in to total 30 before being caught in the last over. Adam Bardouleau came in at 5 and after an unlucky start to his season batted with superb control and power and finished the day on 64 not out which is his personal best. Adam had a great partnership with Ryan Quirke who scored a well crafted 16 before being bowled. Worthing finished on 164 all out in 24.2 overs. We knew Arundel had a strong batting line up and despite our great score we would have to bowl and field well and, intelligently captained by Will Smithers, they set about their task. This was the best fielding performance I have seen. Chris Farley was superb. Keeper, Joe Isaacs, was at his best. The bowling figures were:-
Tom Chambers 5 overs 2-27 Adam Bardouleau 3 overs 1-12 Harry Reed 4 overs 2-32 Chris Farley 4 overs 1-25 Ryan Quirke 4 overs 1-11 Chris Burton 3 overs 2-16
Chris Burton also took a wonderful catch at head height which might have gone for a 6. Steve Meachin and Matt Martin were fielding in the deep and both doing their jobs with confident ability. Many thanks to Paul Chambers for umpiring, Steve Townend for scoring and to all the parents who were present to see their boys perform so well.
Keep it up boys!

Worthing v Pulborough
Pulborough 143 – 7 Worthing 122 – 6
Worthing lost by 21 runs
A beautiful day at the Manor Cricket Ground saw visitors Pulborough bat first and score a total of 143 – 7 from 25 overs. Chris Farley was the pick of the bowlers returning figures of 2 – 10 from three overs. Alex Williams, Chris Burton and Brad Lewis chipped in with a wicket each. Fielding was a little slack but good effort was made with Adam Bardouleau taking a great catch. Worthing’s turn to bat and opener, Rob Cool, played a superb innings retiring on 25 including a huge six, he was well supported by Tom Chambers 16, Chris Burton 12 and Alex Williams 20. We couldn’t get the bowlers away after 15 overs and eventually left ourselves too much to do and we ended up 21 runs short at 122- 6. A great effort boys – well done. Many thanks to Paul Chambers, Steve Townend and Peter Burton for umpiring/scoring. Also thanks to all of the parents who stayed and supported the team it is very much appreciated.
Worthing Chips v Worthing under 14’s
Worthing Chips 65 all out - Worthing 221 - 7
A hot and sunny day saw us at the Rotary Ground for our last league fixture of the season. Worthing won the toss and elected to bat. Openers Chris Burton and Alex Williams started solidly before Alex was bowled on 8. Chris Burton batted superbly for 33*. Adam Bardouleau came in at number 4 and played a commanding innings to finish on 28*. Louis Walpole stepped in for his first game and scored 25*. With the score moving on Will Smithers came in at number 7 and made an impressive 24 before being run out with a direct hit. Steven Meachin made his personal best with 15 before being bowled. Joe Isaacs came in at number 10 and needed 4 from the last ball to reach his career best total, he duly obliged with an excellent shot which went past fine leg to the boundary. Joe finished on 25*. After scoring 221-7 the bowlers kept the pressure up with:- Chris Farley 2-13 Adam Bardouleau 3-5 Will Smithers 2-16
Our fielding was superb with great catches for Chris Burton and Matt Martin. Chips were all out for 65. Our boys have again proved what a cohesive unit they are with a great Team spirit. Thanks to Paul Chambers and Steve Townend for umpiring and scoring. Another great turnout from all the parents who I thank for their wonderful support. Now let’s enjoy the festival! Best wishes
James Smithers
