Under 11 Festival Report 2008

Stan finally gave me the reports, so here they are!

Worthing enjoyed a successful week winning two games, drawing one and managing to tie the fourth amid almost unbearable tension! This was a very creditable performance in a tough group, as we won the group with a young and inexperienced side.

Game 1

Played against Ansty at The Manor and was the most comfortable game of the week ending in a win for Worthing. Jay Hartart scored 91 and took 4 for 6 in Worthing's total of 198, but he was well supported by Nick Oxley (32), James Allen (18 and Alex Anderson (15 not out). Ansty never really came close scoring just 51 all out. James Allen took 2 wickets and a wicket each for Jack Dunn, Nick Oxley and Jakob Heryet.

Game 2

Played against Preston Nomads at their grand home in Fulking. Worthing lost the toss and were asked to bat, and were precariously placed at 59 for 6. Worthing recovered to make 149, with James Allen playing well for his 53 and was supported well by Jack Dunn (7) who just hung around whilst James hit runs at the other end. Nick Smith hit an aggressive 27 to see Worthing post a competitive total. Worthing's bowlers made life difficult for Nomads, typified by Jamie Piper's 2 overs going for just 1 run. The game was drawn with Nomads well short of Worthing's total.

Game 3

Played against Chichester, who won the toss and batted, reaching 124 in their 32 overs. Nick Smith went for just 13 runs in his 6 overs, James Allen went for just 10 runs in his 6, but also took a wicket and Alex Anderson took 2 for 14 from his 4 overs. Worthing's reply  took them to 122 with just one ball remaining. the main contributors were James Allen (31) and Jay Hartart (19). The final ball of the innings needed to be hit for at least 3 runs for Worthing to achieve a memorable victory and Jack Hawkins duly hit a boundary to seal a nail-biting win.

Game 4

Played at Bognor and Worthing finally won a toss and elected to field first on what proved to be a tough wicket to bat on. James Allen took 2 wickets including a superb caught and bowled, but Alex Anderson took 4 for 19 (one another superb catch, this time by Jack Hawkins). Nick Oxley, Jay Hartart and Sam Moss (2 for 4) took the other wickets. Bognor had managed just 88 all out with wicket-keeper Marc Hinton taking 2 catches and a stumping. Worthing also found life tough with the bat, with James Allen making 35, Marc Hinton 7 and Josh Hyde 5. Sam Hyde and George Burgess were the final pair facing the final over requiring 2 runs to win. They managed just one, but ended up tied the game and therefore won the group for Worthing.
